The story is set in the fictional land of Monelia. Primarily, it centres on a boy called Rustin Farramore, who embarks on a quest to recover an ancient relic which was stolen by his best friend, Luke, but the tale doesn't just chronicle Rustin's adventure. His sister, his parents, a sorcerer, a monster and even Luke are on their own personal and physical journeys throughout the story. Will they all succeed? You'll have to wait until the book is published so for now, I'm keeping you in suspense!

Long before I wrote this book, I drafted a series of fantasy novels that were all set in Monelia. They focused on the perilous exploits of a boy named Michael Ralatray; I've since dubbed it the Ralatray series. After those four books were written, I started creating stories that were set on present-day Earth, with fantasy elements included. I could see my fictional universe building and I was excited to begin the process of putting my work out there. The plan was to begin with the first instalment in the Ralatray series: 'The Nocturne of Arnolgrath'. But it became clear after many rejections by agencies that the story was simply not up to scratch.

I needed a new plan. I needed a new novel to launch the Trydelle Universe, and none of the ones I had written were fit for this role.

So I went back to my notes. Among them was an idea for a follow-up to the Ralatray series. It would be set 40 years after the events of the last book, with a new boy protagonist named Rustin Farramore who sets off on a quest across the continent to recover a stolen sceptre. Stuck in a rut, I decided to give it a go.

Turned out to be the right decision. I quickly got into the story; I was keen to complete it. After months of writing, the book was only half-done. It became apparent that the entire story was too great to fit into one novel. Once again, the plan had to change. In adding some extra points of view, I had enough content that meant I could split the whole saga into four books. 'The Shadow's Resurgence', or just 'Resurgence', chronicles the first quarter of Rustin's adventure while the second, which goes by the working title of 'The Demon's Apprentice', follows on from it.

After positive reception from my alpha readers, I strongly believe that 'Resurgence' has the ability to be my debut novel. I look forward to sharing this series with all of you when it's finally complete.
